How to Cope When Sickness Strikes…

By Landice, March 30, 2010 10:10 am

IMG_0992-e1262919220734As most of you know, I am currently out of commission with one heck of a cold. As I sit here in my apartment, I start to think about what runners can do when sickness strikes. It is one of our worst fears… You’re in the middle of a serious training program and you get sick! What do you do now? My first reaction is always this… if you’re sick, no running. Isis complains about this rule stating, “I’ll feel better if I can just exercise”. WRONG! Whenever sickness strikes, you need to rest and concentrate on getting better. While you are bedridden and camping out in sweats, I have a few ideas you might consider… Continue reading 'How to Cope When Sickness Strikes…'»

Tips for Beginning Runners: Don’t Worry About Pace

By Landice, March 26, 2010 11:51 am

IMG_0203-e1264994122495With the beginning of the year still in the rearview mirror, we have been approached by several people looking to get into distance running. One of the first questions we always get is, “Do you have any tips?”

Of course! We love sharing the lessons that we have learned along the way. We always invite new runners to come out with us for a run, but the usual reaction is “What pace do you run?” I always get a kick out of this. I know everyone has a different reason for starting to run, but why limit yourself with a predetermined pace? You’re a beginner, you should focus on building your endurance first…speed will come later. Continue reading 'Tips for Beginning Runners: Don’t Worry About Pace'»

DFW Tweetup Recap

By Landice, February 3, 2010 10:30 am

Our friends Lee and Isis Hargrave, a.k.a. The Running Couple, organized a fabulous event last week at Luke’s Locker in Dallas!  One of our Dallas dealers, Fitness HQ provided a Landice Executive Trainer treadmill for runners to test out at the event. Luke’s Locker shoe guru, Duncan, provided some awesome insight into how to select the best shoes for your feet.  Here is a recap of the event from The Running Couple.  Enjoy!

Our favorite things about running are the community and the culture surrounding the sport. With the increased adoption of social media among professional and weekend runners, we wanted to organize an event to combine the two. After discussing our idea with some really great companies…the #runDFWtweetup was born! We were excited to be able to organize the first tweetup in DFW targeted towards runners and athletes.

On January 27th, 28 runners/athletes from around the DFW metroplex met up at Luke’s Locker . All runners were entered in a drawing for some great giveaways and handed our favorite recovery drink, Athletes Honey Milk . Everyone then had a chance to walk around Luke’s Locker and check out their extensive selection of quality running gear. Luke’s offered all participants 15% off any purchase that night and several took advantage of such a great deal. Attendees were able to take a spin on an awesome treadmill supplied by Landice and have their gait analyzed. Luke’s Locker shoe guru, Duncan, was on hand to answer any questions and gave a presentation about the current running shoe options and how a proper shoe-fitting was conducted. How I Beat Shin Splints

By Landice, January 6, 2010 12:18 pm

ShinSplint_KTb1Before beginning any form of physical exercise, you should first consult your physician. If you experience any pain, dizziness, etc. while exercising, stop immediately and consult your physician.  The story below is a personal account from one of our contributors, Lee Hargrave. Lee explains what worked for him. However, what worked for him may not work for you. Please consult your physician first for advice on dealing with shin splints or any other injury.

Shin splints. One of the most common injuries that plague runners of any experience level. What causes these shooting pains in your lower leg? Shin splints are usually due to the inflammation from injury to the tendon and adjacent tissues in the front of the lower leg. Severe shin splints, if untreated, can even lead to a stress fracture in the tibia.
You may be asking yourself, “Why am I getting shin splints?” Shin splints can be caused by several reasons: Continue reading 'How I Beat Shin Splints'»
